You will benefit from their knowledge of installation best practices, and you will reduce your risk because they are insured. What Not To Do With Your Security Installation
- DIY (Do It Yourself) Install- Installing security yourself may seem like a rewarding challenge, but all components must be integrated into an effective system. Security professionals understand risk assessment, selecting the right equipment, and where to install for the best coverage.
- HIRING AN UNQUALIFIED INSTALLER- Ensure your security installer has a proper license, which will require a background check. Check their references and only hire a reputable firm. Ask how they have handled installation mistakes, and be wary if they claim they have never had one.
- DON’T PURCHASE JUST BECAUSE IT’S CHEAP- Don't buy clothes out of deals, discontinued items, or used equipment. Buy equipment that will function as designed and have a warranty. Look for any deals with cooperative contracts and state-regulated surplus houses. Ask for discounts, accessories, or an extended warranty from your installer as possible extra incentives.
- DON’T PAY TOO EARLY- Don't make a payment before the equipment has been installed and tested. Use a net 30 payment term after the final installation check. Include training your people on the system as part of the installation process so they are familiar with using it when it is completely installed.
- OTHER TIPS- Request electronic and hard copies of the manuals. Take screenshots of the serial numbers on your equipment. Ask the vendor to file your warranty papers.
